Respect for the environment is an important aspect of culture in all societies. Therefore, the autonomous value of the environment and the need to protect it and manage it properly must be a foremost priority for all cities. At the Athens Convention Bureau, we try to promote "green meetings & events" and we do our best to make environmentally friendly and responsible choices and proposals.

A "green meeting" has been defined as a "meeting that incorporates environmental considerations throughout all stages of the meeting in order to minimise the negative impact on the environment." According to studies, staging a green meeting is not only good for the environment, but it can have economic benefits and enhance the reputation of the event organiser.

Green events include all aspects of the event planning process; from site selection to transportation, the environmental impact of the event can be significantly reduced with small changes that will not affect the whole experience.
