International distinction for the Megaron Athens International Conference Centre
The Megaron Athens International Conference Centre, which has been in operation for five years, is included among the major conference centres in Europe and able to host the most prestigious and demanding international conferences.
The number of conferences it has already hosted since it began operating has quadrupled, while 2011 is expected to be a truly impressive year for the Centre.
The occupation of all of the spaces and facilities of the Megaron for international conferences lasting three to four days with more than 5,000 participants is completely integrated into the function of the Megaron over and above its cultural activities, while its programme for conferences of this size has been set until 2016.
It is unnecessary to point out the magnitude of economic importance of these conferences, not only for the Megaron's outlook but for Athens' as well. The successful world conferences staged at the Megaron have earned it a leading position in the international conference market, with a strong presence at all international forums and a series of complimentary reports in the specialised media. Large international conferences attract an impressive number of participants from up to 150 countries per conference. They also attract major figures of world renown, scientists, Nobel Prize-winners, politicians, economists, entrepreneurs and even UN General Secretary Ban Ki-Moon and Bill Gates.
The Megaron's presence in the area of conferences with worldwide scope has been particularly intense in the last five years. As a result of its prominence in this international sector, Megaron Conferences Director Clare Amsel was reelected to the Board of Directors of the International Association of Congress Centres (AIPC).
Ms Amsel was first elected to the Association's Board of Directors in July 2008 in Singapore and was reelected this July during the 52nd General Assembly that took place in Liverpool, renewing her two-year term. She has 25 years experience in executive positions in conference organisation and in conference centre management. She speaks several languages and has been professionally active in Great Britain, Argentina, Belgium and Greece.
The AIPC was founded in 1958 and is an internationally recognised convention centre association in which 165 centres from 53 countries take part. Members are conference centres which comply with its strict regulations and meet the high standards of operation and quality of services set by the Association.
