"A lost elephant". The centennial of the birth of Nikos Gatsos : International Conference

On the centenary of the birth of Nikos Gatsos, the Benaki Museum in Athens, Greece is organising an International Conference focusing on the study of the oeuvre of the poet of Amorgos.

Over two days, Greek and foreign scholars of his work and of Modern Greek literature, poets and translators, will approach Nikos Gatsos's work, in order to reconstitute the thread that links poetry, theatre and song in the writer's universe: to highlight the particular nature of his complex oeuvre, as well as to record his overall contribution to the renewal of poetry and to shaping of the literary face of Greece in the twentieth century.

The Conference will further include a round table discussion, where friends and fellow writers will discuss the man and his work; a theatrical reading; and a film dedicated to Nikos Gatsos.
