The Municipal Gallery of Athens houses a rich collection of nearly 3,000 works from leading 19th- and 20th-century Greek artists. Big names of the collection include George Iacovidis, Angelos Giallinas, Vincent Bokatsiambis, Nikos Litras, George Bouzianis, Constantinos Parhenis, Gerassimos Steris, Agenor Asteriadis and Yannis Moralis. Contemporary artists include Opy Zouni, Chronis Botsoglou and Makis Theofylaktopoulos. The gallery's other standout offerings include a series of engravings by the masters and their worthy followers, along with sculptures and architectural drawings of neoclassical buildings by Ernst Ziller and Theophilus Hansen.
The gallery's building itself is historically significant. Just a couple of years after Greece gained independence in 1832, prominent Danish architect Hans Christian Hansen (older brother of Theophilus) designed the building to be Athens' first indoor commercial center. However, the building was abandoned until 1854. It then took on a series of identities including a steam silk plant (giving the surrounding neighborhood its name; a shopping and residential complex, and garrison headquarters for ELAS. The building was donated to the City of Athens in 1993, and in 2007 restoration work began. The Municipal Gallery of Athens opened on 27 October 2010 with an exhibition of its collection.

Aleria is located in the upcoming Metaxourghio area of Athens. It has succeeded in becoming one of the best restaurants in Athens as a consequence of offering a harmonious combination of an elegant and artistically designed decor with a cuisine that is world class in its inventiveness and quality. The designer Sofia Kehayiadaki, managed to strike the perfect balance between luxury and ambience, creating a restaurant which is quite formal but still unpretentious, cozy and elegant.Equally unique is also the space of the inner yard, where the restaurant is housed in the summer. The paved area provides the required privacy and relaxation, while still in the centre of Athens. Even here, it is interesting to observe the unique tables featuring mosaic motives previously used on the floors of the original neoclassical building. But what is a restaurant if not the food it offers. And the food in Aleria rises up to the challenge and is equally beautiful as the ambiance. Gikas Xenakis, our prominent and highly awarded chef, is one of the best proponents of the New Greek Cuisine movement which now attracts the most talented chefs in Greece. His philosophy is one that combines a calm but confident control of the modern cooking techniques with his memories of traditional home food cooked with the best and freshest ingredients that the sea and land of Greece offers. Examples of the dishes he creates are: wild mushrooms ragout with trahana and parsley sauce, slowly cooked pork belly with celery root puree, coriander sauce and pickled onion; mageiritsa, the traditional soup eaten in Easter, is given by the chef a creative twist and is cooked with seafood maintaining however its original taste. As far as desserts are concerned, foam and mousse of rice pudding with bitter chocolate, cinnamon and lemon sorbet has now become one of the most celebrated dishes in Athens.
At Aleria you will enjoy Greek fine dining in wonderful surroundings in what is considered as one of the best value for money restaurants.
